On June 15, Your Automated Agents Stop Being Free
Anthropic is splitting programmatic Claude usage into a separate, metered credit pool. The CI agent that ran for free on your subscription now bills at API list price — and the credit doesn't roll over.

On June 15, 2026, Anthropic moves all programmatic Claude usage off your subscription's pool and into a separate monthly credit. Pro gets $20, Max 5x gets $100, Max 20x gets $200 — and unused credit resets every cycle. No rollover.
The line that matters: anything non-interactive moves. The Agent SDK, claude -p headless runs, Claude Code GitHub Actions, and third-party agents like OpenClaw all shift to the metered pool and bill at standard API list prices — not the subsidized subscription rate. Interactive terminal sessions, web chat, and Cowork stay where they are.
That reprices a pattern a lot of teams quietly built on. The scheduled agent that triages your issues overnight, the CI job that runs Claude on every PR, the headless eval pipeline — all of them ran against an effectively flat subscription. After the 15th, each one draws down a fixed monthly allowance at full API rates. A nightly job that felt free can drain a Pro plan's $20 in days.
This is the cost discipline we've been arguing for since post one. Agents that are scoped, batched, and routed to the right model survive a metered world. Agents wired for "unlimited" don't.
